Having grown up in a family with a strong rural and racing background, Steve's lifelong interest in and study of pedigrees eventually led to the decision to put his hobby into practice.

In 1990 Steve and Kristina expanded their existing wool and cattle enterprise with the purchase of their first broodmare - a passion which has led to a steady increase in broodmare numbers purchased both locally and from excursions to Keeneland and Tattersalls.

Following a decision to focus completely on thoroughbreds the current farm was purchased in1999. A bare 300 acre cattle paddock with excellent soil and water was developed into the 'new' Orange Grove, a purpose built thoroughbred nursery.

Michael brings more than 30 years of local and international experience to the nurturing of our horses. He grew up with thoroughbreds on Widden Stud and gained extensive experience on studs around NSW and Victoria, including Shipton Lodge and Ealing Park as well as Airdrie Stud and Woods Edge Farm in Kentucky.

Upon returning to Australia from the US, Michael managed Sherbrook Farm at Wilberforce before becoming manager of David Hains famous Kingston Park Stud on the Mornington Peninsula where he remained for 6 years. Michael, his wife Janet and their family joined Orange Grove in 2001 overseeing the growth and development of the current farm.

Michael is very much a 'hands on' manager. His breadth of experience in all aspects of broodmare management, foaling, nurturing of young horses, yearling preparation and veterinary issues is extensive. You can sleep at night when your horse is in his care.
